Green Hills Recreation Association board of directors recently met to discuss the upcoming 2021 basketball season. It is with deep regret, the board reports it will not be feasible to host the recreation league play of basketball in January and February of 2021. Board president, Taya Ray, cites the lack of access to facilities due to Covid-19 as the cause. While the board is tremendously disappointed with the outcome, we still believe in our mission of area youth being involved in sports. GHRA notes the Grand River YMCA in Chillicothe has announced sign-ups for a fall recreation basketball league is happening now with a deadline of October 1.
GHRA looks forward to starting the 2021 summer league off strong with baseball, softball, and tee-ball. Thank you to all players, parents, and community partners for your understanding in this unpredictable time. The Harrison County summer tee-ball, baseball, and softball seasons that Green Hills Recreation Association participates in has been canceled for the 2020 season. While the COVID-19 pandemic is a less than ideal situation, we strongly feel that the safety of our youth sports athletes, coaches, umpires, and fans are, and will continue to be our top priority. While the state is reopening we can’t in good conscience realistically maintain the sanitation of all shared equipment, stay at the recommended 6-foot social distancing guideline, and minimize travel while playing summer ball. GHRA was set to take over Trenton Soccer Stars this summer. Again, we strongly feel that the safety of everyone involved takes priority over the season. The soccer season that typically takes place in June will not be held this year. GHRA is giving its athletes and families two options regarding their registration fees. 1) GHRA can hold your fee and it can be used for the 2021 baseball, softball, and tee-ball seasons. If this option is chosen, we will keep a note in our system and send a reminder email when registration forms go out in February 2021. 2) GHRA will provide a full refund to families. Regardless of which option you choose, we would like each family to fill out this form, once. This will help us with our record keeping, and promptly send out refunds for those families that choose Option 2. For our sponsors, we will be sending a letter to your place of business in the coming week, indicating your options. We greatly appreciate your ongoing support of the Green Hills Recreation Association. Thank you for understanding this difficult decision. We encourage all of our athletes and families to keep working on individual skills, enjoy summer, and remember our sponsors and all area small businesses as Missouri reopens. Here is an update received from Harrison County Softball and Harrison County Little League.
We are expecting guidance next week as the Governor will announce the phases in which the state will begin to re-open and hopefully outline the plan for summer sports. With this announcement the two leagues will communicate with our local health officials and will announce a plan of action for the 2020 summer season. We would like to remind everyone that the 2020 summer season is still suspended until further notice. We will continue to monitor and follow this situation and will make adjustments to the suspension as we are advised to do so by our local health officials. We appreciate everyone's patience in this time of uncertainty, we all are ready to get on the field, but must only do so in a safe and healthy way. Due to concerns resulting from the corona virus (COVID-19), the Harrison County Softball and Harrison County Little League will follow the recommendations to suspend the 2020 summer softball/baseball season until May 11, 2020. This will include meetings, practices and games. Both leagues will continue to monitor and follow this situation and will make adjustments to the suspension date if necessary.
The Pitch Hit and Run scheduled for April, 26 also has been postponed. |
